Combining an obverse of Helena with a reverse of Fausta
Lot 2925
Helena, Augusta, 324-328/30. Follis (Bronze, 19 mm, 2.82 g, 5 h), a contemporary imitation of an issue from Treveri. Irregular mint, after 326. FLAV ELNA AVGVSTA Diademed and draped bust of Helena to right. Rev. SPES REI P-VBLICAE / PTR(pellet-in-crescent) Fausta standing front, head to left, holding two children in her arms. Cf. RIC 481 and 484 (for prototype). Struck from somewhat worn dies and repatinaed, otherwise, good very fine.

From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969.

This coin is a mule, combining an obverse featuring Helena and a reverse depicting Fausta. Its style clearly suggests it is a contemporary 'barbarous' imitation, merging elements from Trier RIC 481 and 484.
